Fair Wind Sailing School – America’s Best Sailing School operates on Lake Erie from our sailing school in Sandusky, OH. On Lake Erie, Fair Wind's Ohio Sailing School is the largest sailing school. Our Ohio Sailing School, is conveniently located at Battery Park Marina in Sandusky, Ohio providing easy access from Cincinnati, Toledo, Cleveland and other locations in Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky and beyond.
We at Fair Wind Sailing School believe Western Lake Erie is an outstanding location for sailing instruction with open water, excellent ports of call and a well developed sailing infrastructure. Lake Erie provides warmer water (typically 75 degrees in Summer) than sailing destinations further north or west on Lake Michigan or Lake Huron. In addition, the abundance of beautiful lighthouses, historic monuments and exciting sailing destinations make Western Lake Erie one of our favorite cruising grounds anywhere in the world.
From our Ohio Sailing School we offer our week long Instant Bareboater® live-aboard sailing lessons on a regular schedule. Instant Bareboater® sailing lessons provide certification from beginning sailing through Bareboat Chartering. Typical itineraries include stops at the fabulous Lake Erie Islands as well as other fine ports in Coastal Ohio and Michigan. The price for these sailing lessons includes on board meals and 6 nights aboard (see FAQ page for more details) .
We also offer Fair Wind Sailing School’s Instant Cruiser® sailing lessons on Lake Erie from our Ohio Sailing School. This is a 3 day sailing lesson that provides weekend sailing instruction beginning on Saturday morning and ending on Monday late afternoon. Instant Cruiser® sailing lessons offer certification at the day chartering level. This is a live-aboard optional (your choice) class with on-board accommodations provided during the class at no extra charge. Overnight accommodations can be made for out of town guests for the nights before or after these classes.
Fair Wind Sailing School also offers sailing instruction in Coastal Navigation, Celestial Navigation, Basic Sailing, Bareboat Chartering and Advanced Sailing at our Lake Erie sailing school. Due to irregular demand for these sailing lessons, they are scheduled upon request.
